Excerpt from Die Knickfestigkeit

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book addresses the theory of elastic stability, a crucial aspect of engineering and construction, particularly in the design of bridges, buildings, and other structures. Prior to the author's groundbreaking work, this aspect of engineering had yet to be fully developed and understood. This book presents the results of the author's own research and experimentation, building on the work of previous scholars such as Euler, expanding the theory of elastic stability and providing practical formulas for use by engineers. Through a meticulous examination of the behavior of columns under compressive loads, the author challenges the prevailing Eulerian theory and establishes the concept of a critical load, distinguishing between the stable and unstable equilibrium of a compressed column. This critical load is defined as the transition point at which a small disturbance causes the column to buckle, and the author develops a formula to calculate this critical load based on the column's length, cross-sectional shape, and material properties. The book also explores the influence of various factors on the stability of compressed columns, including the effects of eccentric loading, shear forces, and the column's own weight. Through rigorous mathematical analysis and experimentation, the author provides a comprehensive understanding of the elastic stability of columns, laying the groundwork for future advancements in structural engineering and ensuring the safety and reliability of load-bearing structures. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9780366426010_0
