The chemical nature of coal ash has been amply summarized in recent review articles (francis, 1961; Ode, 1963; Nicholls, 1968; watt, 1968; and Magee, Hall, and Varga, which deal in part with trace elements. However, research on trace elements in coal ash has not been extensive because until now they have been of little more than academic interest and because they occur in such small amounts that their determination is both costly and difficult.
