Excerpt from Second Report on the Location of the Western Portion of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail-Road, to a Committee of the City Council of Wheeling, 1850
In accordance with the spirit of the Act, which is de signed to procure a decision upon matters of difference, I suppose the Board will accept, as already established, for the purposes Of this investigation, all those points which have been heretofore mutually conceded by the parties. They will scarcely think it necessary to embar rass and complicate the subject by deciding questions on which the parties are themselves agreed.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed analysis of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's infamous Grave Creek and Fish Creek routes. The author, an experienced civil engineer, delves into the historical debate surrounding these two routes, examining the original comparative estimates that condemned the Grave Creek route. The book's main focus is to expose errors in the original estimates and to demonstrate that the Grave Creek route was, in fact, the superior choice. The author brings to light the Chief Engineer's miscalculations, which were not only erroneous but also slanted in favor of the rejected line. The book provides a deeper understanding of the factors that influence the planning and construction of railroads, and the significance of accurate data and objective analysis in decision-making.
