This book, written by a former president of Spain's First Republic, details the author's own experiences in government, and offers a passionate and insightful look at the establishment of the Spanish Republic in 1873. The author was a leading Republican and an advocate of federalism, and the book includes a wealth of information about the period, including the author's personal experiences with political figures, and the decisions made by the Republican government as they attempted to balance the demands of the different factions that supported it. The book also serves as a critique of the policies adopted by subsequent leaders, whose departure from the author's vision led to the downfall of the First Republic in 1874.
