Auch eine volle Reform, die sich auf die deutsche Sprache beschränken würde, muss in unserer Zeit als eine ver fehlte Sache betrachtet werden; nur eine Reform, die für alle Sprachen der Erde geschaffen ist, hat noch eine Berechtigung. Diese internationale Reform wird kommen und muss kommen. Diese feste Überzeugung teilen mit mir wohl alle Männer, welche sich gründlich mit der Frage beschäftigt haben; fraglich ist wohl nur, ob wir dieselbe den Deutschen, den Franzosen, den Engländern oder Amerikanern verdanken werden; fraglich ist auch die Zeit, in der sie ins Leben tritt. Das an gefangene jahrhundert wird aber kaum zu Ende gehen, bevor das grosse Werk dieser Reform durchgeführt ist; die Recht schreibung der Zukunft wird einen hervorragenden Platz ein nehmen unter den Leistungen des zwanzigsten jahrhunderts.
