Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intriguing interrelation between Lycophron's Alexandra, a complex and enigmatic poetic work, and Timaeus' historical writings, particularly his lost Tauromenitan Histories. The author meticulously analyzes the influence of Timaeus' vast knowledge of Greek history, mythology, and traditions on Lycophron's epic poem. Through a comparative examination of specific passages from both works, the book uncovers the extent to which Lycophron relied on Timaeus as a source for his own narrative. This study illuminates the broader literary and historical context of Lycophron's Alexandra, shedding light on its themes, characters, and the significance of its mythological and historical allusions. By exploring the interplay between these two pivotal figures, the book offers valuable insights into the literary and intellectual landscape of the third century BCE.
