Composta di pun che alcune trale molte e molte lettere che ho scritto ed in efietto mandato le quali faran conoscere al lettore tutti quei par ticolari che io difficilmente potrei altrimenti che con una troppo minuziosa narrazione; gli farau conoscere soprattutto lo stato dell'animo mio ne'varj luoghi, e nelle varie epoche del mio lun go e sciagurato pellegrinaggio. E questa conoscenza perverrai purissima da qualunque più lontano o leggero dubbio di posteriori aggiunte od em missioni e varietà,; mentre le lettere che or pub blico sono scrupolosamente quelle identiche che ho spedite,e quali esistono tuttavia nelle mani di quanti la ricevettero e le abbiano conservate. Ben depo quasi vent'anni ch'io ritorno cogli occhi sulle dette lettere e sui detti scritti in for:-ì ma pur essi di lettere, mi reputo obbligato a pregare chiunque voglia compiacersi di farne lettura, che se mai gli avvenga in proposito di alcuni fatti o persone 0 paesi d'imbattersi in qualche giudizio che gli sembri, non certo già contrario a quanto dovea parermi vero, chèquesto qual lo tentavo allora per tale, per tale lo tengo tuttavia e lo terrò mai sempre; ma pronunziato con espressioni forse alquanto più vivo del bisogno, ad anco intese a farne biasimo sotto il velo d'ironia trappo spiccanti; a pregarln io dico, ch'egli pensi qual era e doveva essere l'agitazione del mio sentimento già ognor facile ad. Agitarsi) nei tanti e si lunghi mesi che mi trovavo sforzatamente lontano dal suolo nativa e dalle antiche e caro abitudini di studi, e per un di più tra molte e molte cose assai anche in quel tempo contrarie agli aspiri ed alle speranza del miglior essere di questa or nostra italia, che fu sempre il principalissimo desiderio di mia quanta la mia.
