Excerpt from Drip Oil Distillates Boiling Point Above 110 Centigrade: A Thesis
Very recently it was found that drip oil, a condensate pumped from the collecting sumps in the city gas mains, contains a considerable amount of benzol and toluol which may be recov ered by distillation in a column still. After these products have been removed, a large res idue remains which supposedly contains the high er homologues of benzene.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the distillation process of drip oil and its components, which contain a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons, chiefly xylenes and mesitylene. The author confirms the presence of naphthalene in drip oil and establishes a method to identify and isolate this solid hydrocarbon. This study also delves into the identification of meta-xylene, para-xylene, and ortho-xylene, collectively known as xylenes, a higher homologue of benzene, through the preparation of trinitro derivatives and microscopic examination. This book provides valuable insights into the composition of drip oil, a condensate found in gas mains, and demonstrates the use of various techniques for identifying and characterizing its constituents. The author's work contributes to a better understanding of the chemical composition of drip oil and its potential applications.
