Excerpt from Catalogus Avium: Hucusque Descriptorum
About three years since, when I commenced to prepare this Catalogue, my intention was to give only a list of the species in my collection; but on considering that six years have elapsed since the issue of the last volume of the Hand List of Birds (gray), I thought that the publication of a Catalogue in one volume, containing all the species of birds described to this date, would be acceptable to ornithologists.
