Metrology areas where present state-of-the ― art capabilities are inadequate to meet sdi require ments are discussed, and areas of metrology-related research which appear promising to meet these needs are examined. Particular attention is paid to the difficulties of long-term, unattended sensor calibrations and long ― term measurement reliability.
