Synopsis
As a young lieutenant in 1941, David Stirling won a battle against military bureaucracy - he was able, against all odds, to introduce a new concept in fighting. Although it was disbanded after the war, the effectiveness of the Special Air Service resulted in its being re-formed six years later to meet the specialized demands of counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism in a host of limited-intensity conflicts. Based on three years of research in the UK, Africa, France and the Middle East, this biography seeks to explain Stirling's personal philosophies, drive, sensitivity and courage. Alan Hoe was a friend of Stirling and a long-serving member of the SAS. As "James March" he wrote "The Negotiator", and was a co-author of "Terrorism - Threat and Response".

About the Author
Alan Hoe joined the SAS in 1960 as a Trooper. He retired in 1980 in the rank of Major. His service (he has fought in the desert, amongst other places) has given him a deep understanding of the SAS. He can speak the language of soldiers, and has met all the surviving 'Originals' of 'L' Detachment (SAS). He was a trusted friend and confidant of David Stirling and wrote this book with the full cooperation of him and his family. He is the author of several books and has written for a number of journals and magazines on military strategies and international terrorism.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good copy in a good/very good dustcover. The book is signed by the author and also has a card attached to the first page with a signature from Bob Bennett, one of the SAS 'Originals'. The rear of the book has other clippings including David Stirling's funeral order of service. There's some very light spotting to the edges of the pages. Otherwise the book is in very good order indeed with clean and crisp pages. The covers are equally good with no rubbing or curling in evidence. The dustcover has a little shelf ware, some small scratches and a few small creases on the spine but overall is good/very good. Please see photos. Inscribed by Author(s).
