Guillen, Michael

9780349110646: Five Equations That Changed The World

Synopsis

It was through the brilliance of five fascinating people - Michael Faraday, Daniel Bernoulli, Isaac Newton, Rudolf Clausius and Albert Einstein - that we were able to harness the power of electricity, fly in aeroplanes, land astronauts on the moon, build a nuclear bomb, and understand the mortality of all life on Earth.

In accessible yet unpatronising language, Dr Michael Guillen re-creates the political debates, social upheaval, religious sanctions, family tragedies and personal ambitions that contributed to each man's work, illuminating the secret world of mathematics in a dramatic and personal way that will entertain as well as enlighten.
