Ex-used car salesman Harold Dodge can't resist helping his beautiful co-worker Marianna to retrieve her car from a low-life dealer - a con-man not unlike the 'bird dog' Harold used to be. But what should have been a straightforward exchange begins to get out of hand. When Marianna unwittingly takes a document which could incriminate some of the local mob the misunderstandings and dirty dealings escalate, and Harold finds himself embroiled in a far more dangerous set-up than he ever could have bargained for. Bird Dog is a sharply observed, witty and affectionate look at the absurd criminal underworld of LA from a talent with a real future.

Swagger, who is often called "the Bird Dog," is determined to find a way to get back into the fight, and he finds his way back into the Army as a trainer of military dogs. Swagger's training techniques, which focus on the use of dogs to find and track objects and people, become legendary, and he is eventually called back to combat.
