About the Author
Murray Hawtin is Senior Policy Analyst at the Policy Research Institute, Leeds Metropolitan University, where he is engaged in a wide range of social research and evaluation. He has extensive experience both as a grass roots community development worker and of carrying out community-based research. Janie Percy-Smith is a freelance researcher and consultant with almost twenty years experience of research and consultancy in the areas of research impact, social exclusion, local governance, regeneration and community development. She is a Visiting Professor at Leeds Metropolitan University and Training Development Director at the Social Research Association.
