Synopsis

This book is part of a series aimed at sixth formers, each dealing with a major theme in depth, illustrated by extracts drawn from primary sources. It deals with the Russian Revolution and puts the period into perspective, highlighting the central issues, main controversies and recent developments. A wide variety of source material has been used in order to give the pupils the maximum amount of experience - letters, speeches, newspapers, memoirs, diaries, official papers, Acts of Parliament, minute books , accounts, local documents and family papers. Pupils will be encouraged by the questions to assess the reliability of evidence, to recognize bias and emotional prejudice, to recognize conflicting accounts and to extract the essential from the irrelevant. It is hoped that students using this material will learn something of the nature of historical inquiry and the role of the historian.

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Minimal wear, appears unread. From 'Documents and Debates' series. Each volume in the series concentrates on a particular topic within a narrower time span. A general introduction to the period in question is followed by eight sections, each dealing with a major theme. Each section consists of an introduction, a series of documents to illustrate the theme (drawn mainly from primary sources) and sets of questions following groups of documents. The student is thus introduced to a wider range of sources than that to be found in the standard textbook. The 8 sections: Russian Political Parties - theory and practice; The February Revolution; The Provisional Government - Feb-June; The Provisional Government - July-October; The October Revolution; Civil War; Domestic Policy; The Last Years of Lenin. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Seller Inventory # 002140
