Synopsis

The papers presented here were first given at the International Conference of Economists at the University of Zagreb in Yugoslavia. The book contains a selection of divergent theoretical and practical views on the problem of international debt and its repercussions on world economic growth at large and the developing countries in particular. Practically all the relevant questions of international policy are covered - on international trade and economic development; debts and the development strategy; international financial systems; rates of exchange; capital market and external liquidity; structural adjustment policy; and country risk. The experiences of some developing countries are also reviewed as providing lessons for some others. Finally, probable solutions and structural adjustment policies of developing countries plus national and international policies are examined.
