The time-span of the eighth volume spans two centuries of radicals, trade unionists and socialists. Entries are on the same pattern as those for the Dictionary of National Biography, but with many more bibliographical sources provided.

About the Author
JOYCE M. BELLANY is a Fellow of the University of Hull. Her publications include Yorkshire Business Histories: A Bibliography and The Trade and Shipping of Nineteenth-Century Hull.
JOHN SAVILLE is Emeritus Professor of Economic and Social History at the University of Hull. His previous books include Ernest Jones: Chartist; Rural Depopulation in England and Wales, 1851-1951; and three volumes of Essays in Labour History, edited with Asa Briggs. Forthcoming is his study 1848. The British State and the Chartist Movement.
