Synopsis
This is one of the most distinguished works in English historiography and probably the most famous product of historical scholarShip to appear in the last forty years. In the year following its first publication in 1929, The Structure of Politics came to be acclaimed as the most important book to be written in the field of English political history of the eighteenth century and its appearance marked a turning-point in the studies of that period.
Sir Lewis Namier, who was knighted in 1952, was a Fellow of the British Academy, Hon. Fellow of Balliol College, Hon. D.Litt. (Durham, Oxford and Rome), Hon. Litt.D. (Cambridge), and Hon. D.C.L. (Oxford). He was a member of the editorial board of The History of Parliament. He died in 1960.
