Excerpt from Probable Types of Difficulties Underlying Low Scores in Comprehension Tests
The purpose of this study is to single out, so far as possible, the factors that are responsible for low scores on comprehension tests in silent reading and to group them in classes representing probable types of difficulty that underlie such scores. It seems that such a study will be helpful in suggesting types or fields of training that will improve faulty conditions. This study is to be one of status only; that is, the children used in the experiments were all at the same level Of school experience and no attempt was made to follow up the tests by corrective measures. A study of such corrective measures would be an excellent problem for a sequel to this study.
