Excerpt from What We Cook on Cape Cod
Virginia batter bread. - One quart of milk brought to the boiling point, one pint of corn meal, butter the size of an egg, one teaspoonful of salt. Cook and stir like mush. When cold add six eggs well beaten, one pint of cream or buttermilk in which a teaspoonful of soda has been dissolved. Put in a baking dish and cover till it rises. Bake. - [mrs. J. D. Livingston.
