Excerpt from Determination of Dynamic Loads in a High-Frequency Direct-Stress Fatigue Machine
The deflection of the dynamometer was measured visually by a beam of light Which indicated the static and dynamic loads directly on a scale. The static loads were indicated by a sharp line of light and the dynamic loads were indicated by a band of light. The mean load, which appeared as a narrow line when the machine did not oscillate, corresponded to the average of the extreme values of the light band during operation of the machine. The load range was controlled automatically by means of a photo - electric regulating device actuated by the light beam of the dyna mometer and thereby controlling the power input to the electrical drive.
