Excerpt from Sigma Phi Epsilon Journal, Vol. 30: February 1933
W. A. Alexander, Georgia Tech coach and a member of the all-america Board of Football, wrote regularly for the New York American throughout the season. In picking Maples for All Southern center he said: The place goes to Maples of Tennessee on his great work in backing up the Tennessee line. The defensive strength of the unbeaten Tennessee team was the outstanding feature of this team's play and Maples was the keystone of this defense.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book places the United States' role in international affairs under a historical microscope, analyzing evolving attitudes from the lead-up to the Second World War through the presidencies of Truman and Eisenhower. The text meticulously examines how the gap between pre-war isolationism's perceived strength and post-war global responsibilities transformed U.S. foreign policy and shaped the terms of the ensuing Cold War. Drawing on official records, private papers, and memoirs, the author pieces together how Truman's 'containment' doctrine and Eisenhower's 'liberation' rhetoric became instrumental in shaping a new era of international relations, one marked by superpower tensions and proxy conflicts. This book will capture any reader interested in how foreign policy is shaped under the pressures of global events and domestic politics, testing the limits of a nation's ideals and its capacity to manage the responsibilities of global leadership.
