9780323905947: Plant Receptor-Like Kinases: Role in Development and Stress

Synopsis

Plant Receptor-like Kinases: Role in Development and Stress presents the latest research in receptor-like kinases (RLKs), a class of development and defense-response proteins in plants. As one of the largest protein families, with roles ranging from growth and development to stress response, RLKs are involved in every aspect of the plant life cycle, including growth and development, reproduction, and immunity. Development of high throughput sequencing technology has improved the identification and characterization of numerous gene families in plants in the recent years, allowing researchers to identify and characterize numerous RLK sub-families in model plant species and agro-economically important crop plants like rice, wheat, sorghum, tomatoes, and more.

This book provides foundational knowledge on the classification of RLKs, their mechanism of action and their roles in the plant life cycle, as well as the most up-to-date advances in the applications of RLKs. It is an essential read for researchers interested in plant signaling and plant genomics.

  • Presents detailed information on receptor like kinases (RLKs), including their mechanism of action and classification
  • Analyzes numerous sub-families of RLKs and their roles in plant development and stress management
  • Highlights the function of RLKs in plant innate immunity

About the Authors

Dr. Upadhyay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany at Panjab University, India, with over 16 years of experience in Plant Science. His research focuses on green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and key defense-related proteins, as well as long non-coding RNAs involved in stress responses. He has made significant contributions to plant defense and genome editing research. Dr. Upadhyay has received prestigious awards including the INSA Associate Fellowship and the INSA Medal for Young Scientist. He also serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for several international journals.

Dr. Shumayla is currently a Research Associate in the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. She has been working in the area of plant molecular biology and plant biotechnology from past 5 years. She has identified and characterized various sub families of receptor-like kinase (RLK), such as lectin receptor kinases, leucine-rich receptor like kinases, Cysteine-rich receptor like kinases etc. in bread wheat. She has authored more than 10 publications including research articles in peer reviewed international journals and book chapters. She is also an editorial reviewer in the frontiers of bioinformatics and computational biology.

From the Back Cover

Receptor-like kinases (RLKs) belongs to the class of defense-related proteins. It is one of the largest protein family with roles ranging from growth and development to stress response. They are involved in every aspect of the plant life cycle, such as growth and development, reproduction and immunity. Development of high throughput sequencing technology has favoured the identification and characterization of numerous gene families in plants in the recent years. Researchers have identified and characterized numerous RLK sub-families in model plant species and agro-economically important crop plants like rice, wheat, sorghum, tomato etc.

Plant Receptor-like Kinases is a compilation of the latest research in this important class of development and defense response proteins. It provides the foundational knowledge of the classification of RLKs, their mechanism of action and their roles in the plant life cycle, as well as the most up-to-date advances in the applications of RLKs. This is an essential read to researchers interested in plant signaling and plant genomics.
