About the Author

Joan F. Goodman is Education Professor, Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania. In addition to The Moral Stake in Education: Contested Premises and Practices, she is co-author (Howard Lesnick) of Moral Education: A Teacher-Centered Approach (2004). This work, though useful for advanced study, is primarily directed to in-service training. She is co-author (Usha Balamore) of Teaching Goodness: Engaging the Moral and Academic Promise of Young Children (2003), an exploration of how one teacher encourages children to "fall in love with goodness." Her book, When Slow is Fast Enough: Educating the Delayed Preschool Child (1992), analyzes preschool education for special needs children. Dr. Goodman has also published over 50 articles, book chapters, videos, and opinion pieces on the subjects of developmental disabilities and moral education. She is a child psychologist interested in assessment and education of children with disabilities and moral conflicts that riddle schools
