How to Handle Any Business Research Question
When I committed myself to begin working on this book, I realized that the information needed for lawyers and business professionals was vast. Yet, I underestimated greatly the task that was before me. Working within a law firm, I quickly discovered the more difficult requests were for nonlegal information. Yet litigation and business success often balances on finding the answers to such critical questions as the following: What are the pricing factors for the hospitality industry? Prepare a time line of events for the Persian Gulf War. Prove that successful companies can start their business undercapitalized. What products can be manufactured from specified chemicals?
I quickly learned that the facts actually needed for business are not found within a single subject discipline. Therefore, I had to develop a way to research that allowed me to locate the materials I needed in areas outside my own speciality. This book is the result of that effort.
It presents the materials and soures need to: compile biographical information on key players or parties; locate an expert witness; compile or obtain a company profile (whether the company is public, private or nonprofit); engage in marketing research; evaluate an insurance company; and investigate potential business partners or competitors. The Handbook presents strategies that focus and streamline the research process, and provides sources in every media whether hard-copy, online, CD-ROM or the Internet. It is update twice a year to keep researchers abreast of the latest developments.
The research process is often like a good mystery book that can't be put down. There are facts given and clues found that can lead to a solution. I hope this book will provide the reader with all the leads needed to solve his or her own research puzzle.
