Synopsis
Post hip hop n: 1. a period of great transition for a new generation of youth searching for deeper understanding of themselves in a context outside of the hip-hop monopoly 2. An assertion that encapsulates this generation's broad range of abilities and ideas and incorporates recent social advances (i.e., the women's movement, gay rights) that hip hop has refused to acknowledge or respect.Post hip hop is not about the death of rap, but the birth of a new movement propelled by a paradigm shift often felt in the crowded spoken-word joints in North Philadelphia, the krump-dance dance-offs in Compton, and on a tattered stoop of Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn. "It's Bigger Than Hip Hop" details how hip hop has changed and how this generation of youth is giving birth to a new movement.

About the Authors
M.K. Asante, Jr. is an award-winning poet, filmmaker and creative writing and screenwriting professor at Morgan State University. He is also the author of LIKE WATER RUNNING OFF MY BACK and BEAUTIFUL. AND UGLY TOO. His films include the internationally acclaimed documentary, 500 Years Later and The Black Candle.
