The insights and methodologies provided allow the reader to understand the root human-interaction problems in modern systems, improve the usability of new user interfaces, and, the author hopes, have a say in the design of the highly automated systems of the future.

About the Author
ASAF DEGANI is a computer scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. He is the lead scientist on the Human Automation Theory project, which is part of NASA's long-term research and technology effort.
