A political scientist, Baehr (human rights, Utrecht U. and Leiden U.) commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by investigating the extent to which human rights are universal in general, with details about a number of specific places. He emphasizes the political aspects without neglecting their legal nature. The treatise is translated from the Dutch Rechten van de mens , published in Amsterdam. Most of the text is new, but nearly half is revised from parts of his The Role of Human Rights in Foreign Policy published in a second edition in 1996. Annotation c.
