Michael Somers has kept away from Little River Bend for most of his adult life, to pursue an ambitious career. But now all those dreams have fallen apart, he returns to this small North American town with a determination to face his past, and faint flicker of hope for something better in the future.
However, feelings run high among the tight-knit community. Everyone seems to have a reason to shun him, including his neighbour, Susan.
