Explores various images attributed to or imposed upon Turkish women. The 14 contributions take a historical view, looking at the changes and continuities in the images of Turkish women from the late Ottoman era to the present. Along the way they look at the Ottoman satirical press, images of Turkish women as sexual personae in Western literature, Turkish women in American missionary texts, Kemalism as identity politics, female labor, the Purple Roof Women's Shelter Foundation, and top women managers in Turkey.
