This critical study, by the author of "Margaret Drabble - Puritanism and Permissiveness" examines Drabble's 11 novels in chronological order. Myer's earlier study appeared at a time when Drabble had published only six novels and her work was attracting little scholarly attention. Since then, the Drabble bibliography has extended to some 500 items, including a number of critical analyses that have been carried out by Americans who have not necessarily been inward with the social mores of the British middle class. "Margaret Drabble - A Reader's Guide" traces Drabble's development from author of works about the "trapped graduate wife and mother" to "condition of England" novelist to prober of society's psychoses in a wider political arena. The book is aimed at those who have read some of Drabbble's unique "oeuvre" and would like to know more of the background. For those required to study a particular novel it offers the context of the other novels.
