This devotional guide focuses on various names and titles of God, ones that reveal him as our Creator, our King, our Rock, our Refuge, our Fortress, the Lord of Hosts, the Shepherd, the Lord who heals us, the Lord who provides for us, and the Father who loves us. In the ancient Near East, names carried a much deeper significance than they do in our culture. Rather than simply distinguishing one person from the next, names often conveyed the nature or attributes of the person. To know someone's name was to have an intimate knowledge of that person. This is especially true when it comes to the names and titles of God, which reveal his character. By praying the divine names and titles and learning about the biblical context in which the name was revealed, we can have a more intimate knowledge of who God is and how we can rely on him in every circumstance of our lives.
