To wlasnie starzejace sie ludzkie cialo - co czeste u Rotha - staje sie glównym bohaterem tej malej (niespelna 170 stron!), lecz poteznej ksiazki. Nieunikniona kolej rzeczy, budzaca w nas jednakowe przerazenie, której doswiadczymy wszyscy.
Bohater Rotha jest Kazdym naszych czasów, mimo - a moze dlatego - ze jego zycie jest tak bardzo zwyczajne, a final przewidywalny. Na poczatku wspominaja go najblizsi, nastepnie opowiesc snuje narrator, czyli sam Roth, który przypisuje mu ostateczna konstatacje pozbawiona nadziei: ,,Uwolniony od istnienia, przeniósl sie bezwiednie w kraine nigdzie. Tak jak sie tego obawial od samego poczatku".
