Synopsis

This title provides a comprehensive approach to developing and implementing reproductive health programmes in the developing world. It responds to the global need for a detailed guide to comprehensive reproductive health services. It furnishes an innovative conceptual model - reproductive security - and offers an in-depth analysis of major reproductive health issues. An important contribution of the book is that it is oriented to the needs and challenges of the district health manager, usually the working level of service delivery in most developing countries. This book equips users to assess the local context, craft an appropriate reproductive health strategy, and implement an effective programme. The text discusses subjects such as: providing high quality family planning services; reducing maternal death and illness; combating sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS; and reducing sexual violence against women and families. The need for skilled, dedicated professionals is great. Those who choose to pursue the discipline are promised an endlessly rewarding and absorbing profession that will touch upon the most intimate aspects of life while reverberating globally. This book should be of great interest to public health professionals on both a local and global level, international policy makers, and relief workers.
