Synopsis
Claudette is the granddaughter of the famous Lilith Lucas. She is living in the back streets of London, penniless and struggling to support her ailing father who is on the run from the police. Then Claudette wins a place on the stage at the Gaiety Theatre. Across London, worlds away from Claudette, Miriam da Silva is immersed in high society. She is beautiful, rich and spoilt. However, the paths of Miriam and Claudette are destined to cross. AUTHBIO: Claire Rayner, nurse, agony aunt and author was born in London in 1931. She married in 1957 and it was while her children were young that she began to write. She is also a tireless campaigner on many medical and social issues, including the long term care of the elderly. Her literary output comprises over eighty books including fiction and a broad range of medical matters. She has three grown up children and lives in Harrow with her husband.
