Synopsis
Designed for students with little or no formal background in Spanish, this textbook provides the necessary language and vocabulary to facilitate better communication between health care providers and the growing Spanish-speaking community in the United States. This classroom text uses readings, exercises, and interactive activities to integrate Spanish medical vocabulary, grammar, and colloquial terms that nurses, doctors, dentists, and medical technicians need most. Rich cultural notes explain Hispanic customs and communication styles. The following are new to this edition: a full-colour design; an expanded Web site with downloadable artwork, exercise props, and more activities; an updated lexicon that includes vocabulary related to new medications and current-event topics such as cholera; and, more exercises in the target language.

About the Author
Robert O. Chase is a forensic social worker at the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. He teaches Spanish at the Yale University Center for Language Studies, Tunxis Community College, and local hospitals. Clarisa B. Medina de Chase is a rehabilitation therapist for Spanish-speaking patients and families at Connecticut Valley Hospital.
