Synopsis

A record of debates between distinguished contemporary philosophers. Fons Elder arranged and compered a series of four hour-long television debates between the world's most eminent thinkers, reviving what he thinks of as the Socratic tradition of philosophical debate. A. J. Ayer and Arne Naess discussed 'The Glass is on the Table: an empiricist versus a total view'; Sir John Eccles and Sir Karl Popper 'Falsifiability and Freedom'; Noam Chomsky and Michel Foucault 'Human Nature: Justice versus Power'; and Leszek Kolakowski and Henri lefeebvre 'Evolution or Revolution'. Reflexive Water is not only intellectually exciting: it also serves as the best possible introduction to the essential ideas of contemporary and political thought.
