Excerpt from Proceedings of the Geologists' Association, 1859-1865, Vol. 1
The President then delivered the Inaugural Address. He directed epecial attention to the importance of finding two facts; remarking that it had been well observed that there were even more false facts than false theories in the world. He stated that Geology was a science which rested exclbsively on a knowledge of the outer world, and none more liable to be hindered by false fade. There was none, therefore, in which the gathering up of true facts could be more needed.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book records the proceedings of the Geologists Association from 1859 to 1860. The primary goal of the association was to collect true facts about geology, which the author believed was a science that rested solely on a knowledge of the external world. The author particularly stressed that, like any science, the avoidance of false facts and theories was of the utmost importance in geology. This book compiles papers presented at the association's meetings, which includes topics such as a lecture on mineralogy, the occurrence of fossils in the London clay, the distribution of red chalk in England, and more. The papers in this volume demonstrate the dynamic and varied collection of topics that make up the study of geology and paleontology.
