Synopsis

Excerpt from Two Letters on the Advantages of Railway Communication in Western India: Addressed to the Right Hon. Lord Wharncliffe, Chairman of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway Company

The importance of the Railway we propose making has, I apprehend, in a military point of View, been very imperfectly understood by the community at large. Though not qualified to give an opinion professionally on the subject, there are some points on which my knowledge of the country may en able me to speak, and I trust, therefore, your Lord ship will pardon me for bringing them under your notice.
