Excerpt from The Chess Euclid: A Collection of Two Hundred Chess Problems and End-Games
The kind solicitations of some of my intimate friends have induced me to publish this collection of Problems. My first intention was, that they should form a supplement to a more instructive work than I conceived this would be namely, a Treatise on the Endings of Games, by my friend Mr. Horwitz and myself; a subject which has occupied our leisure hours for some time past. My professional avoca tions have so long delayed the completion of our labours.
