M. Le comte de Vidua rend compte dans une courte préface du but qu'il s'est pr0posé en publiant cette collection. A son départ de Turin, il ne songeait pas à voyager en Turquie; il se dirigea vers le nord. Mais, après avoir parcouru le Dane maralg, laisuède, la Laponie et la Russie, il eut le désir de visiter la partie méridionale de la Turquie d'europe les bords dela mer 'd'azofet'de la mernoire; une fois parvenu presque aux portes de Constantinople il ne voulut pas revenir sans avoir vu cette capitale et sans avoir visité les principales pro vinces de l'empire ottoman.
