Son cours est sillonné par un va-et - vient continuel de bateaux-omnibus, qui transportent une foule devoyageurs, de remorqueurs qui traînent des radeaux pesamment chargés, de bar ques, de canots d'utilité ou même de plaisance. Le trafic, qui en résulte est énorme, puisqu'il est supérieur à celui de tous les autres ports fran çais, et le rêve de Paris port de mer n'est certes pas une utopie.
