Nous nous croyons trop originaux! Mais, au contraire, ce n'est pas nos jugements c'est nos impres sions qui ne sont pas à nous, si la nature en est conditionnée je dis même au physique, et au moral à plus forte raison, par le tempérament ou par l'hérédité, par l'éducation, par le moment ou par le°milieu; et nous savons bien que nous ne sommes les maîtres ni du moment, ni de l'édu cation, ni de l'hérédité. Ce qui revient à dire que, quand nous parlons de nos goûts nous ne parlons de rien qui nous soit personnel, propre, ou particulier seulement. Il n'y a pas tant d'es prits singuliers, ni si divers, en ce bas monde; et ce n'est pas nous, en nous, qui aimons ou qui n'aimons pas les drames d'alexandre Dumas et les romans de M. Émile Zola, c'est toute _une lignée d'aïeux, c'est toute une famille d'esprits, je dirais volontiers c'est toute une espèce d'hommes.
