I cannot resist the impression, however, that the most solid and fruitful department of your work will be connected with education. Southampton has the great privilege of giving a home to the Ordnance Survey, which is in itself a notable source of instruction. It supplies lessons in exact surveying and in cartography, while furnishing you with these maps with which all young geographers ought to begin their studies - the maps of their own homes. There should be a popular history of the Ordnance Survey in the hands of all young geographers of Southampton. One was written some years ago by Captain Palmer, which only requires to be brought up to date.
