Au manège, il s'amusait à passer sous une poutre, à la saisir avec les mains, à s'enlever en soute nant son cheval entre ses jambes. En Italie, pendant une ronde, il aperçut un jour un soldat en faute. Mettant son cheval au galop, il passa à côté de lui, le saisit par le collet de son habit et le porta à bras tendu, sans ralentir sa course, jusqu'au prochain poste de police où il le jeta.
