Excerpt from Handwriting and Expression
The movements which the hand makes in the act of writing, form a tracing upon paper, which observation and comparison of data have shown to be a graphic representation, within certain limits, of the individuality of the writer. This tracing of his nature which a man unconsciously makes when he writes, has the advantage of permanency, which allows an amount of detailed study to be given to facts of this kind, that it is not practicable to apply so readily to many other forms of gesture, which, althcugh equally expressive, are fleeting in their manner Of outward manifestation, such, for example, as facial or other bodily gestures and move ments.
