Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This 14th-century collection of poetry by the esteemed Italian author gathers two centuries' worth of sonnets and lyrics from the Tuscan, Bolognese, and Sicilian traditions. While the author has separated the works into two sections - the first containing poems of a religious nature and the second containing those which explore secular themes - both sections reveal the influence of the dolce stil novo, a popular style of the period that emphasized ornate language and idealized love. The author's own work, infused with the era's religious fervour, is no exception, combining contemporary literary fashion with moving spiritual sentiment. This book is an important resource for anyone interested in Italian literature from this period, providing insight into the development of the Italian language, and the variety of styles and themes that existed during this fertile period of literary history.
