La conferenza mia, al modo stesso di quelle che l'avevano preceduta, avrebbe dovuto esser stampata dal Barbòra; e gia' era allestito an che il corredo di note di cui intendevo mu nirla. Ma il proposito non era per me di fermarmi a questa sola pubblicazione. Per ragionar con coscienza di un problema cosi stranamente intricato, m'era convenuto ab bandonarmi a ricerche e riflessioni assai lun ghe e faticose, quali non s' immaginerebbero forse dal tuono leggiero che la natura del pubblico cui m' indirizzavo m'aveva suggerito di dare al discorso. Ai materiali cosi messi insieme, la conferenza coll' apparato suo non potevan di certo dar yoga bastevole. Quindi ero venuto nell' idea di far poi tener dietro.
