Synopsis

Excerpt from An Introduction to the Study of the Diseases of the Nervous System: Being Lectures Delivered in the University of Edinburgh During the Tercentenary Year

We shall consider first the Line of the Sensory Fibres from the Periphery inwards to the Sensory Centres in the Cerebral Convolutions. You are familiar, from your previous studies, with the various forms of nerve-endings which receive sensory impressions. You Observe in the drawings the features of some of those which are best recognised. In fig. 1 you perceive the general arrangement of the Pacinian bodies on the nerves of the finger, and you will remember that they occur also in the toes, the arms, the neck, the thorax, the genital organs, the joints, the peri osteum, and the mesentery.

In fig. 2 you see the appearance of a Pacinian body magnified 350 diameters.
