Der Ausdruck altindisch ist in der Schrift, welche ich hiermit dem Publikum übergebe, in engerem Sinne angewendet worden, als es von Anderen, z. B. Von Whitney in seiner Grammatik, geschehen ist. Er soll nur denjenigen Theil der Sprache umfassen welchen Panini als vedisch bezeichnet, also die Sprache der vedischen Samhitas und der Brahmanas. Die poeh'schen Theile dieser Bücher sind von mir unter dem Namen Veda (v), die prosaischen als Prosa (p) citirt.
